Yet another saga of horrible experience with R&L movers
Mover reviewed by Veer Pande on 08/11/11
First things first - these guys are the most unprofessional movers I have ever dealt with. 1st - Pick up at last day of the time window at the last minute, that too the driver shows attitude and drives away coz' i got tired of waiting on him and went to return my other rental truck. Eventually shows up in the evening, guesstimates that the weight is over by 200 pounds. Driver does not give the proof of weight after loading my stuff. 2nd.- At the day of delivery, the driver, customer service and owner all try to charge me extra for 200 pounds without giving me any proof. Eventually, they back off after I insist for a weight ticket. 3rd - Leave me some one else's box full of important documents (leases etc) while misplace my box somewhere. I call everyday to track my lost box and they tell me they are not able to get in touch with the driver, the computer is down yada yada yada. This has been going on for last 3 weeks. I will pursue this cheats to the desired conclusion, come what it takes. Still waiting ....
OMG-Disaster

Contracted from another co. Guaranteed delivery of next week after pick-up-instead belongings taken to a storage unit in Tx!! Move was from Missouri to Utah!!! Lied to everyday about where stuff was, arrived 3 days late to pick-up then arrived 14 days late--had to begin new job without any of my stuff for over a week--Ray (owner )lied-customer service Diana lied finally Theia got the correct amount owed as contract had an addition error on it-off by over $750(of course in there favor)---took them 20 days to get my stuff to me and it was delivered by someone who did not work for them-he was amazed at the way R & L had packed items so he repacked the load before heading out--items damaged and lost or stolen. Do yourself a favor run in the other direction!!!!
BEWARE - THIEVES!!

This was the most horrific moving experience I've ever encountered. I moved from TX to TN. First of all, the movers showed up a day late. They were the most unprofessional individuals i have ever dealt with. I lived in an upstairs apartment and they were throwing my boxes off the balcony and down the steps to one another. I was so livid by the time they left, i knew my belongings would never make it to TN in one piece. They were suppose to arrive in TN three days later @ 11:00 am. After not returning my calls, they finally arrived @ 10:00 pm. It was raining, there was no light in the truck. They sat my stuff in the lawn while they dug through the truck looking for my stuff, in the pouring rain. I had @ least four missing boxes which have never arrived and it's been four months. So they basically stole my stuff. I mean how do you "misplace" items that are loaded onto a truck?! I have had numerous conversations with the owner re: my missing items and he simple joked and said "maybe someone is wearing your stuff around"....VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and A RIPOFF....MOVERS BEWARE!!
Worst company (Shady) in the world

I have made some bad calls in my life but this is by far the worst one. They are thugs, rogues, and a bunch of make believe sales people. Dan Woods is the sales guy that wrote out my contract. He took a list of all my items and guaranteed my cost will not change and he promised a 3-5 days delivery. I paid the required 20% down payment and was promised a pick up time of 11am to 1pm next day, but the driver didn't show up till 10pm. That same night I received 5 calls from the driver (Not Dan the sales guy) quoting me a price. On the final call, I told him I wasn't talking about price with him and that he should get with Dan. He claimed he didnt know Dan. I called Dan and he told me to ignore him ...in Dan's words "He is just a worker like me, his job is to drive". I found confidence in his words and waiting for my things, 6 days passed and I didn't get my stuff yet, and I called Dan asking for an explanation. Dan started ignoring my calls, hanging up on me like his signal was bad, or hanging up while he claims to be transferring me to the dispatch department or his boss. I finally called his boss (Al Green I believe he called himself - Director of Operations & Sales)8 days later and he gave me the transfer to the dispatch department. Dispatch said my delivery will be 7 to 21 days, so between a week and a month???? that's not what Dan said. 11 Days later, another driver called to drop my things off and asking for 35% more money than what Dan guaranteed. I called Dan and he said the driver said they picked up more stuff, so I asked what they picked up and he had no answer. He said he will call me back but I have not heard from Dan since then. The driver wanted all the money before off loading my things from the truck when the contract stated "pay upon delivery" I asked him to complete his task and I showed him the money. He refused and left with my stuff. I don't have my things yet. THEY ARE THIEVES
Terrible Experience !

We had them move us from Houston to Ft lauderdale and they broke a lot of items . The load was pushed all together and that is what caused breakage. They were to crate our motorcycle .Payed a fee of 500 for that and it never happened .THen when they got here the bike was scratched and they broke a turn single on my motorcycle that was two months old and dented some of the chrome. They lost screws from the furniture they took apart and made some of it useless . Scratched up a lot and broke desks . Then when the guys got here they did not know how to put some of the furniture back together . What a mess never i say never use this company they are a nite Mayer .
This company is run by a crook

Mover reviewed by P.D on 05/31/11
Don't use this moving company. This company is a fraud! BBB recently revoked their accreditation in Jan 2011. I wish I knew this company is shady before hiring them for my move. Long story short, I paid them to pick up my stuff, break my stuff and deliver broken items long after the scheduled delivery date. The owner Ray Oren is a biggest liar with full of false promises, he knows how to sweet talk into hiring them. Once he gets your money he literally disappears! For your sanity sake, AVOID R&L MOVING SYSTEMS.
HORRIBLE!!! Pick ANY other moving company!!!!!

They lied to get the job by $1000 underestimation, charged extra to wrap items carefully & it wasn't done (ex. charged extra to wrap a series of 5 canvas paintings, when they were delivered, they had been stacked on top of eachother and wrapped together with moving tape. Of course 2 of the paintings were ripped and they ALL had paint that was removed when the tape came off) EVERY piece of furniture that I own was ripped, dented or seriously scratched. I could go on and on and on but this review only allows 2000 characters. TRUST ME. you DO NOT want to use R&L for your moving needs!!!!
Terrible service from start to finish, move was a nightmare

Mover reviewed by Loren Woodward on 12/28/10
I booked with them 3 weeks in advance and requested that they be at my house at 8 am which they agreed. They showed up at 11:30 with too small of a truck. While the movers stood around waited they went to get another truck. They started at 1 pm, at 3 pm the foreman asked my husband to feed them. Because I complained the late arrival the co. sent a manager to 'supervise' the loading but the manager was as unprofessional as the movers...He talked our ears off, all irrelevent stuff. They said they would deliver in 4 days, but it took them 6. It was a total disaster. Not to mention they quoted me almost half of what ended up costing me. I would never ever use this company again and I urge you to stay away if you can help it.
How on Earth are they still in business? Yeech. Horrid.

Mover reviewed by Near Miss on 12/19/10
Luckily, I was able to cancel my contract with them because they failed to even show up or call, three different times! However, my conversations with their representatives never failed to fail. They denied any record of my contract. They hung up on me. They lied to me. They would say, we will call you back in 30 min. then I would never hear from them again. Finally, I just canceled my contract and it only took them two weeks to refund my deposit. At long last, I can put this contract in the shredder. Still, I wonder if this company is a front or something because I can't imagine how it is still in business with problems like mine and the others described. They appear to employ at least 7 people because I have records of talking to 7 different people. They should be embarrassed.
Robbers & Looters

R & L Movers Inc. is the worst company in the history of moving companies. None of the employees are professional or know what's going on. The more you call, the less info you get. The owner 'Ray Oren' makes broken promises and then states that he is a truthful person. We were promised discounts, being the fact that our things were 21 days late. We were promised a full service move. We got our goods subcontracted by another company, who never put our things back together as promised. Our stuff was unloaded and dropped in the middle of our floor, damaged and all. I can fill FOUR pages of damages and complaints about R & L Moving Inc. Trust me on this one, you DO NOT want to use them.
Gut Feelings

Mover reviewed by QueenFlutterB1 on 09/17/10
My gut feelings about this company prompted me to check for customer reviews before I paid. I just felt creepy during both conversations with Marvin who has trouble with English but is very good about asking which credit card will be used to pay. And his first question was if I had other quotes which I didn't think was his business. I've made excuses for not being able to pay yet for two days because my guts said "wait" and after reading these reviews I'm so glad. I just really hate to be threatened with rate increases if I delay payment so I requested a written contract and a not to exceed maxium amount guarantee. Neither was agreed upon so now I'm waiting for an associate to call me back. I won't be using this company for my move.
Don't use & if you have file a complaint with the FMCSA

Mover reviewed by Mrs Robinson on 09/07/10
R&L took an additional 15 days to deliver a guaranteed shipment. They did not contact us to explain the delays (which they are required to do under federal law). They refuse to honor their contract. They damaged the items shipped and damaged my home upon delivery. They used inexperienced drivers. They offered us a few hundred dollars to make us go away. Well, I'm not ready to give up fighting them. If you have been damaged by R&L Moving systems, file a complaint with the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration. http://www.protectyourmove.gov/consumer/awareness/rights/rightsF.htm
Over a $1,000 in DAMAGES! STAY AWAY!!!

Mover reviewed by Elsi on 08/25/10
STAY AWAY STAY AWAY STAY AWAY!!!!! We signed up with one company that subcontracted to this company and needless to say, we got screwed. At the pick up, these guys arrived 6 hours late and packed at night. I watched them loading everything into a pitch black truck. The load was then moved to a warehouse and then another truck. At delivery, I couldn't believe my eyes. Our things - everything we own - were just thrown on top of each other. Nothing was stacked! Just thrown! Pictures frames were either half lying on the floor or smashed under four heavy boxes. The driver claimed the plastic bins caved-in because of the heat but all of our cardboard boxes were OPEN! That has nothing to do with heat!!! Bookshelves are chipped, glass from a table is shattered, an office chair is MISSING, a DVD rack is DESTROYED... Just to name a few... And best of all: THE MOVER DROPS A BOX RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!!! ********DO**NOT***HIRE***THESE***SCAMMERS*****************************
Worst Moving Experience Of My Life

Mover reviewed by Ashlee on 08/21/10
I would like to share my moving experience with R & L Moving Systems, Inc based in Houston, TX. However, this board has a 2000 character limit and I can not describe the details of my experience. There were problems at pick up, delivery, many many damaged items, how the claims process works, etc. I put everything up on a website with photos of the evidence. I hope it helps.
***R&L moving a ripper*****

Mover reviewed by One of the customer on 07/11/10
I had a bad experience with this mover. They took three weeks to deliver my stuff and damaged several items. I gave a list of items to be moved and they cooked up an item (a safe 1000 lbs) and jacked up the price. -******Don't go with this mover even if they give u better deal********** Bad company to do business with.
A company of thugs

Mover reviewed by Deepak Tickoo on 07/10/10
Beware of these thugs. They promised me that they will deliver my stuff in 5 days though actually they delivered it after 20 days. They broke my T.V. and a lot of other furniture. They charged thrice the quote under the pretext that the stuff was more than what had been quoted. I pray and I have a gut feel that this company of thugs will soon go out of business and save further unsuspecting people from avoidable harassment.
This R&L Moving System is a SCAM

Mover reviewed by J&S on 06/10/10
Be very carefull. They gave me a NOT TO EXCEED price quote and they showed up on the day of the moving. A guy who can't even speak English made a phone call to his boss and started asking for $2000 more from what the quoted originally. They refused to move my household stuff and kept our deposit money. BBB is no use. This company know how to paly with the system. BBB is asking me to go to Houston from Los Angeles to recover my $400 deposit money. I had rebook four air tickets for my family and I had to spend additional $800. R&L knows how to squeez more money from you or at least keep your deposit money. It is not worth talking to them. Two guys from R&L Moving talked to me and their name was David and Ray. Stay far away................
STAY AWAY

after reading all these other people's reports im not surprised to say that everything described is the exact thing im going through right now. i was told 5 days id have my stuff and im still waiting two weeks later. Also the original price was 950 that turned into 2 grand. obviously theyre pulling the same scam on everyone because they know that once they have your belongings you have no choice but to pay the ridiculous price. on top of all this, when my wife and i called they are were so rude i wanted to drive back to houston and confort the guy!! please listen to me and everyone else on this page. AVOID this company! you are better off carrying your belongings on your back.
Stay away from these crooks!

I got a decent quote from R & L movers, and after talking to the owner Ray Oren, I decided to go ahead with them. Big mistake! Firstly, they never arrived on the said date, and it was only after my calling them, that I was informed that there was some problem and so they would be able to make it only the next day. Professional courtesy dictates that the customer should be informed well in advance regarding the change in schedule. The movers arrived the next day in the morning. Online checks of the movers and their history is of no use, as they just have one truck, but the owner claimed to schedule a truck from Houston to Chicago every 3 days. The truck that arrived for our move (1 bedroom) was an unmarked truck, similar to one of the Enterprise trucks. The truck was dirty and in dirt was written, "Help! We need Diesel". The move was taking more space than quoted, and this was after specifying my inventory in detail. I was told that I had to pay for an extra 175 cubic feet, and that is quite a lot. Since they had loaded the stuff, and since I was leaving the same day, I really couldn't do much about it and so agreed. I was informed that my move would take longer than specified, and it was 11 days before I got my stuff. I was constantly calling the owner about my stuff. Please note that the delivery is made by a different company, which implies that your stuff is loaded on one truck, maybe offloaded to another truck, loaded back into a delivery truck and then sent for delivery. My boxes were battered by the time they reached my new home, and one of my end tables had cracked. The delivery people insist on cash, something which was not made clear. On the whole, it was a trying and very strenuous move for me, and I ended up paying considerably more than quoted initially. I would avoid this company, and rate it pretty bad, since they did not arrive on time, did not stick to the initial quote, hijacked the goods, and delivered it very late in very bad shape.
Reasonably suprised

Mover reviewed by August Rhodes on 11/17/09
After reading these particular reviews I was hesitant to use them. However, I found them to be very upfront with me about their complaints. I found it refreshing that they didn't try to deny them. She just commented on how they learn from their mistakes. My move was from Houston to CA, they came out to my house and looked at my stuff. They gave me a price and to my suprise the price didn't increase AT ALL on my move date. The men who actually picked my goods up were great. They were quick and actually looked like they enjoyed their job. They didn't guarantee me a delivery date, but they delivered pretty quickly. Overall I give them two thumbs up and would recommend them.
We haven't seen our stuff in a month

Mover reviewed by Kristen on 07/24/09
We agree with all of the reviews so far except for the fact that we dont know if anything is missing yet, because it has been over the maximum time limit and we still have not received a delivery. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE THIS COMPANY. Its been an inconvenience from start (where, like the others, our stuff seemed to triple in weight and price) to finish...which we havent seen yet. They first told us 7-8 days. After the 8th day, they told us 7-8 days. After the 16 day, they called to let us know our stuff was leaving!!!! Then 5-6, after the the 6th, everyday since then we were told to expect it. 21 business days was the max we were told, and today is 22. Their excuse last night was that the driver didnt feel comfortable delivering at night because our neighborhood was unsafe, not true. Now this morning there are mechanical problems. I've been sleeping on the floor for 4 weeks and would like to stop anyone else from making the same mistake.
Please save yourself lots of money and stay away.

Mover reviewed by Philip on 06/30/09
The only way you should EVER do business with this company is to have them do an in-house quote. Otherwise they will double the price (more than doubled in our case!) when they show up. Also, get extra insurance! They lost some large furniture items and only paid us $0.60 per the weight of the item!! Same goes for some BRAND NEW presents that were still wrapped. Funny how, when they load, everything seems to be extremely heavy (for a high price), but when they need to refund you, your items seem so very light. Please be very careful.
Bottom of the Barrel

Mover reviewed by BigNas on 04/08/09
I typically don't write reviews good or bad, however, these movers are completely unprofessional and incompetent. When I reviewed R&L's website you see a nice 18 wheeler (the type of truck that I have had move my belongings in the past and that most people have going across country)...well that truck is a farce! For my 5 bedroom house these people showed up with a 24ft truck, the same kind you would get from U-Haul or Enterprise Rental. I had to watch and wait for these people to cram my belongings into this tiny truck. After the truck was about half full the foreman (who by the way made sure he asked for a raise BEFORE even lifting a box) said that they underestimated the amount of things I had and now had to charge me more based on the weight. $2000 more! and that also led to an increase in my storage costs from $400 to $700! I was floored. I almost told them to just take what they had packed on the truck and I would pay for what they had done (which included $400 in extra cost for "packing" materials - such a scam for additional money) and just get rid of them. After the quote for additional costs a very inexperienced mover lost control of the dolly with my amoire on it and rammed a 4 inch hole in the wall. The solution from the bosses back at the base - which from who I talked to sound like a bunch of gypsy thugs - was that one of the movers could fix the hole. I had to take these clowns to Home Depot where they purchased drywall and spackle to "fix the hole". They fixed it and it looked so amatuer. I told the main office it was unacceptable and I needed a professional. The coup de gras of my entire experience with R&L Movers was when I pulled up to meet the truck only to see one of the workers urinating in plain view in front of the truck. UNBELIEVABLE! And can you believe they asked again and thought they deserved at tip?! I have a tip...stay away from these people.
Damaged, Stolen, Rude People

Mover reviewed by Lorrie G on 12/09/08
I had R & L moving, and have experienced the worst move. My belongings were damaged and missing, along with my sons Hotwheel monsters trucks missing and a bag of Change that he had been saving. The people at R & L are unprofessional, they charged me an extra money to move my belongings into my apartment complex and claimed I signed a contract, when asked to see the contract they showed me someone elses, also they were giving me other peoples belongings. Boxes that had fragile written all over them were smashed. PLEASE Beware of these people they are scammers and will rip you off. They will overcharge you and steal your belongings.
Horrible Company

Mover reviewed by Bubbernut on 12/03/08
They will steal your things and not give you the value for them. Very rude people and as soon as they get your money they become unprofessional. I have never experienced such bad service
Follow Up Response Non-Existent

Mover reviewed by Lawrence Caffrey on 10/18/08
I was very pleased with the initial response of this company and my representative. Once my household goods were moved out, the company and the representative would not respond to phone calls or e-mails. Apparently they outsourced the shipment and washed their hands. I lost all trust in R & L and was fully prepared to deny the credit card charges for the reservation fee and half the balance. The remaining half of the balance had to be paid in cash or certified check and paid before they began unloading my goods. I would definitely not use this company again.
